PILATES

Pilates is an exercise method that emphasizes strengthening the body, particularly the core, which enhances overall fitness and well-being.

Like Yoga, Pilates focuses on improving posture, balance, and, while also minimizing the risk of injury compared to more intense workouts.

This practice also highlights the mind-body connection, requiring participants to maintain awareness of their breathing and body movements throughout the exercises.

Developed by Joseph Pilates, a carpenter and gymnast in Germany, Pilates was initially created as a rehabilitation program for injured dancers soldiers during his time in the UK. He believed in the close relationship between physical and mental health, and in the 1920s, he moved to the US, where he established a Pilates studio in New York, originally naming the practice Contrology.
